Mr. Burns is an associate attorney with Reitz, Paul & Shorr.  His practice includes criminal, juvenile and traffic defense, domestic relations matters such as divorce/dissolution, custody and guardian ad litem service, contract drafting and review, and general civil litigation.  He is a 2002 graduate of Indiana University – Bloomington with a B.A. in History and Political Science.  Burns received his J.D. from The University of Akron School of Law in 2005, where he participated on UA’s award-winning Moot Court team and earned CALI Excellence for the Future Awards in both Juvenile Law and Family Law.  Burns has had a long and distinguished career as a trial attorney throughout Northeast Ohio, including government service as a public defender and a county prosecutor.  This varied experience makes him an effective advocate in any setting.  Burns understands that trust is the key to a strong attorney-client relationship and strives to earn and maintain that trust every day.

 

A native of New York City, Burns was raised in New Jersey and lived in Indiana before settling in Akron, Ohio in 2002.  He and his wife are the proud parents of four, aged 23, 16, and two 9-year-olds.  Burns is a longtime licensed OHSAA official in football, basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball.  He has also served on numerous boards for fraternal and sports organizations and is active as a basketball coach and volunteer in his children’s school.
